My first non-fiction review!
This book has been an answer to the prayer I've prayed over and over with many tears and frustrations. That this is a game-changer is an understatement. WOW. HIGHLY recommend to parents who love Jesus and seek to serve Him with every aspect of their lives.
Cover Blurb:
What is your calling as a parent?
In the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights, many parents get lost. Feeling pressure to do everything “right” and raise up “good” children, it’s easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas.
In this life-giving book, Paul Tripp offers parents much more than a to-do list. Instead, he presents us with a big-picture view of God’s plan for us as parents. Outlining fourteen foundational principles centered on the gospel, he shows that we need more than the latest parenting strategy or list of techniques. Rather, we need the rescuing race of God–grace that has the power to shape how we view everything we do as parents.
Freed from the burden of trying to manufacture life-change in our children’s hearts, we can embrace a grand perspective of parenting overflowing with vision, purpose, and joy.
What I loved about this book:
The anointing on this book that made the Holy Spirit’s ministry to me as a parent WHILE I parent very real. Tripp weaves the hope of the Gospel of Jesus into our journey as parents, and it is SO encouraging. He points us back to Jesus and to surrendering to Him so that He can heal us even as we love and guide and steward our children. If you open your heart to the Spirit of God as you read this book, you WILL encounter Him and walk away from these pages different. Surrender to Him. No regrets.
What I didn’t care for in this book:
Nothing. This was a well-crafted novel for parents who want to love God in their parenting and are willing to grow. This book is one you will want on your bookshelf and continue to reference in the years to come. I VERY highly recommend it. There is a study guide available and there are short videos of each principle on YouTube you can check out.
