Back Cover Blurb:

To take her rightful place in the powerful Talon organization, hatchling Ember Hill must prove she can hide her dragon nature and blend in with humans. Her delight at the prospect of a summer of human teen experiences is short-lived, however, once she discovers that she must also train for her destined career in Talon. But a chance meeting with a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught.

Garret Xavier Sebastian, a young dragonslayer in the top-secret Order of St. George, is tasked with hunting her down. But when faced with Ember’s bravery, confidence, and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything the Order has ingrained in him and what he might be willing to give up to learn the truth about dragons.

What I loved about this book:

Main characters who can shape-shift to dragons. I super-loved this concept, as I've not read something like this before. LOL Don't judge me, I'm almost forty, but I still love YA stories.

Fast-paced, unique plot and main character arcs: Both Ember and Garrett personally learn about the enemies in their lives, and it affects their end-of-the-book decisions. I will say it was a little bit predictable, but it was still a story I wanted to follow.  Kagawa does a nice job on telling their backstory so it is relevant to the plot and doesn't slow it down.

What I didn’t care for in this book:

Some language. However, it wasn’t done enough to make me put the book down.

The tropes. I’m an oddity in that I don’t read books for the trope–snag me on a rollercoaster ride, and I’ll ride it wherever it takes me. (I mean, the book DID take me only two days to read, so it reeled me in just fine, lol) Two-guy-one-girl-love-triangle. Bad boy on a motorcycle. Rebellious, spitfire girl who can’t help but escape the confines of her life gets three summer months of freedom. Twin brother/sister who are orphans (who reminded me somewhat of Tris and Caleb from the Divergent series)

The love triangle. I mean, it was a great way to hook the reader in. Just not my favorite trope, I guess. (Not sure what IS my favorite trope, though, now that I think about it…lol)

Excerpt: None for this one–I returned the book before I typed one out. Sorry about that!

Stars: 3.5 I wasn't super-wowed by this book (writer-craft-wise like Strange the Dreamer), but the fast-paced adventure, high stakes, and interesting characters held it up for me.
